Flexible Protective Grille

It is mainly used for protecting small rockfalls and foreign objects from invading on the slopes of road cuts. Its components are independent replaceable units, which facilitate installation and replacement.

Understanding the Flexible Protective Grille

The Flexible Protective Grille is composed of steel columns, flexible metal nets, bases, support ropes, locks, etc. It is mainly used for protecting small rockfalls and foreign object invasions on slope-type road cuts. Its components are independent replaceable units, which are convenient for installation and replacement.

The Flexible Protective Grille is mainly composed of profiled steel columns (including end columns and intermediate steel columns), steel column foundations, interception steel wire ropes, double-twisted hexagonal nets, end lock devices, and interval pressure plates, etc.

The height of the columns is determined based on the height of the slope, slope ratio, rock type, terrain conditions, etc. Generally, 1.8m or 2.5m is adopted. When other heights are used, individual design should be carried out.

Main construction requirements

Steel column foundation construction → Steel column positioning and installation → Installation and debugging of interception steel wire ropes and end locking devices → Installation of flexible metal nets → Installation of pressure plates at intervals between interception steel wire ropes.

Flexible Protective Grille
  • When laying out the positions of the steel column bases, each base should be placed as close as possible on the same level line.
  • The anchor bolt cement mortar (cement slurry) should be injected from the bottom of the hole with reverse pressure to ensure a dense and full injection.
  • Blasting operations are prohibited during the construction of steel column foundations. The foundation is constructed using a vertical slotting method. It is advisable to carry out the construction during the dry season and sunny days. At the same time, the anchor bolts and ground anchors should be pre-buried and concrete should be poured in time.
  • The design length of each link of the flexible mesh fence should not exceed 50 meters. At the points of slope change, additional diagonal braces should be added to enhance stability.
  • The lowest point of the void between the low-lying ground is more than 30 cm away from the lower support rope. It should be filled with steel wire rope and flexible metal net. If the distance is less than 30 cm, the void should be filled with flexible metal net.
  • The flexible metal net is laid on the inner side of the system (the side facing the mountain). The flexible metal net is fixed to the interception wire rope using steel wires or connecting components. At least 4 fixed points should be set per square meter; the connection points of each flexible metal net should overlap by no less than 10 cm.
  • When the end steel column is placed on the slope surface, it is necessary to measure the slope angle on site and transmit the data back to the factory for custom processing of the slope support.
  • When the flexible lattice screen is installed on the top of the wall, there should be gaps between each link to ensure that people can pass through and prevent the stones from rolling down.

FAQ

Q1: What is a Flexible Protective Grille and where is it used?

A: A Flexible Protective Grille is an adaptable barrier system specifically designed for slope protection and cut-and-fill sections. Its primary application is preventing small rockfalls and foreign object intrusions on embankments, road cuttings, and railway slopes while maintaining terrain permeability.

Q2: How does the Flexible Protective Grille system enhance slope safety?

A: The grille’s interlocking modular design combines high-tensile steel mesh with flexible connectors, creating a dynamic barrier that absorbs impact energy. It effectively intercepts debris up to 50kg while allowing natural drainage, making it ideal for erosion-prone areas.

Q3: What materials are used in Flexible Protective Grille construction?

A: Our grilles feature galvanized steel wire mesh (3-5mm thickness) with anti-corrosion coating, reinforced by flexible polymer joints. This ensures 15-20 years service life even in harsh environments with UV exposure and temperature fluctuations (-30°C to 60°C).

Q4: Can the Flexible Protective Grille be installed on steep slopes?

A: Yes, the flexible connection design allows 35°-75° slope adaptation without structural compromise. Its lightweight panels (8-12kg/m²) enable manual installation at 50-80m²/day per crew, significantly reducing engineering costs compared to rigid barriers.

Q5: What are the maintenance requirements for Flexible Protective Grilles?

A: The system requires minimal maintenance – bi-annual visual inspections and debris clearing. Damaged modules can be individually replaced without dismantling the entire structure, saving 60%+ maintenance costs versus traditional solutions.

Q6: How does this solution compare to concrete retaining walls?

A: Flexible Protective Grilles provide equivalent protection at 40% lower cost, with 70% faster installation. Their permeability reduces hydrostatic pressure risks, making them preferable for areas with seasonal water flow (up to 200mm/hr drainage capacity).

Q7: Are custom configurations available for specific project needs?

A: Yes, we offer modular customization including:
• Mesh density options (50-150mm apertures)
• Impact resistance grades (50kJ-100kJ)
• Slope-specific anchoring systems
• Vegetation integration features for ecological slopes

Relatde Products

By combining the steel columns and the steel wire mesh, a complete structure is formed, providing slope protection for the protected area. This prevents the falling of collapsing rocks and serves as a slope protection measure.

This device is applicable to mountainous areas with buffer zones near building facilities. It can prevent rockfalls, flying rocks, avalanches, and mudslides from entering the building facilities, thus avoiding the damage caused by disasters to the building facilities.

This product  is installed in the gully and is used to intercept the materials carried by debris flows.
This product is a flexible barrier structure, mainly consisting of a tension anchor system, energy dissipation device, steel columns, upper and lower support ropes, anti-sedimentation device, and flexible metal net.

Applied to the entrances and exits of tunnels, where the mountains are high and the slopes are steep, and where there is a high risk of dangerous rocks and weathered debris falling directly onto the road surface, posing serious hazards.
